Blue Malawi Cichlid

Who lives where? Who lives how? What story do these fish have? We are happy to answer these and other questions in our species presentation.

Description

The Blue Malawi Cichlid is just one example of many varieties of the Malawi cichlids in our aquarium.
The blue Malawi cichlid (Maylandia zebra, synonyms: Pseudotropheus zebra, Metriaclima zebra), also zebra cichlid or just Malawi blue bass, in English "Zebra mbuna", is an African cichlid from the cichlid family (Cichlidae). He lives endemically (localized) in Lake Malawi.

Way of life/habitat

The home of the blue Malawi cichlid (Maylandia zebra) is Lake Malawi in Africa. He lives on the rocky shores of the lake.
This cichlid is particularly common on the northwest coast of Lake Malawi, which is also called Lake Nyasa. Here it occurs between Cape Manulo and Kande Island.
However, there are also populations on the east coast of the lake that differ slightly in color from those on the west coast. The populations in the far north of the lake are already considered by many researchers as their own species, Maylandia emmiltos.
