Mirror Carp

Who lives where? Who lives how? What story do these fish have? We are happy to answer these and other questions in our species presentation.

Description

The Carp (Cyprinus carpio) is a species of the carp family (Cyprinidae). About 1500 species belong to this group of fish.

There are 4 types of scaling:

- Scale Carp with complete scaling

- Mirror Carp with irregularly arranged, oversized scales

- Line Carp with a row of scales along the sideline

- Leather or Nude Darp without scaling

Types of confusion: Leather Crp - this has no scales at all. Mirror Carp - this carp has only a single row of scales along the lateral line organs. This row can also appear doubled in individual cases, but then the scales are somewhat smaller than if they appear as a single row of scales.

Way of Life/Habitat

The carp prefer warm, standing or slow-flowing waters with vegetation and soft ground. They are relatively insensitive to fluctuations in the pH value and the oxygen content. During the day, carp are shy and mostly stay in deeper water areas or in hiding places, so that they only become active at dusk. They are shoaling fish that survive the deepest parts of winter and do not take in any food during this time.

Most of the deposits are found in the middle and lower reaches of the larger rivers. Almost all stocks are based on stocking measures with breeding carp, because they were spread by humans in ancient times and can now be found throughout Europe (with the exception of Scandinavia).
