Who lives where? Who lives how? What story do these fish have? We are happy to answer these and other questions in our species presentation.
Description
The Arapaima leptosoma is a maximum of about 80 cm long. This species was rediscovered and lives endemic to the Brazilian upper reaches of the Amazon "Rio Solimôes" and the tributary "Rio Purus". Like other species of the genus Arapaima, the Arapaima leptosoma can breathe atmospheric air and therefore has to go to the water surface frequently to get air. Arapaimas are popular edible fish in their homeland.
Way of Life/Habitat
Arapaima leptosoma lives endemic (localized) on the Brazilian upper reaches of the Amazon "Rio Solimôes" and the tributary "Rio Purus".
Arapaima leptosoma mostly lives in flat areas densely covered with water and riparian plants in periodically flooded areas.
