Peacock Eye Stingray

Who lives where? Who lives how? What story do these fish have? We are happy to answer these and other questions in our species presentation.

Description

The Peacock Eye Stingray has been a feared water dweller for centuries. Due to their poisonous sting on the tail, they are very dangerous, especially for swimmers of rivers who accidentally step on the barely visible rays.

Way of Life/Habitat

Peacock-eye stingrays live in the large rivers of South America, especially in the Amazon and Orinoco. The sleeping behavior of rays is particularly interesting, they bury themselves in the flat bank areas in the sand. This protects them from all enemies, and their color means they are barely recognizable through the sand. This type of rays becomes sexually mature at the age of approx. 2-4 years. Peacock eye stingrays give birth to their fully developed young after a gestation period of three to four months. The babies are immediately viable on their own and on their own because the stingrays do not care for broods.
